The Center Building has been a signature gathering place in Downtown Alpena since its construction as the Hanover Block in 1903.
When this grand department store first opened its doors—one of the largest in the state at the time—it quickly earned the cheerful nickname “The Daylight Store,” thanks to its enormous windows that poured sunshine into every corner.
Since 1997, the current owners have been lovingly bringing the Center Building back to life. 2nd Floor
The 2nd floor is dedicated to professional office space. It currently houses the law firm of Wenzel Bennet & Harris, Ascension/Compassus Home Health Care, and Alpena Therapeutic Center. It has a secluded, quieter atmosphere than the first floor but is still conveniently accessible to the first floor and downtown amenities via two wide, carpeted staircases and an elevator.
There is a large hallway with seating areas plus two restrooms on the 2nd floor.
Current tenant Compassus occupies the spacious office suite on the second floor of Center Building.
The 1,404 square-foot space includes a reception desk and waiting room area plus a kitchenette with a refrigerator, cabinets and space for microwave and small sink. The space has been updated, carpeted and painted in the fall of 2023. There are four private spacious offices, two with large windows overlooking Pocket Park area and one smaller, private office with an adjoining door to a file room or work area. Three of the offices have direct access to both the central second floor hallway and to the interior hallway of suite, which allows for subleasing shared private office space to related professionals. The entire suite is easily accessed via two stairways and an elevator (handicap accessible). There are restrooms on the second floor.

All utilities, heat, AC, snow and trash removal, common area use and maintenance (bathrooms, hallways, entrances, community conference room (6x per year free use plus discounted additional use), seasonal exterior and common area décor, public wifi.
