We’re proud to shine a spotlight on Renee Reising, founder of Ms. Reising Star’s Tutoring Service, a warm and welcoming educational space located right here in The Center Building in downtown Alpena.
Originally from Waterford, MI, Renee moved to Alpena three years ago with her husband. She holds a Master’s degree in Special Education, K–8 certification in Math and Language Arts, and a strong passion for making a meaningful impact. With over 15 years of teaching experience—particularly in grades 4–8 and as an intervention specialist—Renee now mentors future educators through Western Governors University and works at the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Michigan, serving children and families across four counties who have experienced trauma or abuse.
Her tutoring business grew out of a clear need she saw in the community.
“Many families were looking for more individualized support,” Renee says. At Ms. Reising Star’s Tutoring Service, she offers personalized instruction in reading, writing, and math for students in grades K–12, both in person and virtually. Her approach is data-driven, compassionate, and flexible—designed to meet each child where they are.
Beyond traditional tutoring, Renee also leads small book clubs, and offers drop-in hours for homework help or test prep. “Some of my students come weekly, others check in just a couple times a month,” she says. “It’s all about what works for them.”
Since moving into The Center Building this spring, Renee has appreciated having a professional, welcoming space in the heart of town. “It’s a great location with everything I need—and it’s nice to be part of a community of people doing meaningful work.”
Her biggest tip for parents? “Be involved in the tutoring process. Meet the tutor first and make sure there’s a good connection. There has to be a connection for instruction to be impactful.”
When she’s not working, Renee enjoys golf nights with friends, camping, and kayaking adventures around northern Michigan.
