Meet Rachel Achatz: Compassionate Counseling in Alpena

Rachel Achatz joined the Center Building family in 2024 and is excited to be part of the downtown Alpena community.

“It’s a perfect set-up for me as a solo practitioner and my clients really love my new setting,” explains Rachel. “I formerly owned a group practice and I was spending more time in management than seeing clients. So this was a great fit to go back to my solo practice. I have made friends in the building and enjoy what my co-tenants have to offer.”

From her website:  My path into counseling comes from personal experience. After facing my own challenges and discovering the power of therapy, I committed myself to this field with a deep understanding of the effort, resilience, and hope it takes to make meaningful changes. Therapy can be transformative, helping us see ourselves more clearly, build healthier relationships, and overcome obstacles to well-being. It can be tough work, but it’s incredibly rewarding.

Not to be missed is Rachel’s therapy dog Oakley who Rachel jokes is the main attraction at her practice. Rachel and Oakley are both certified in animal-assisted therapy. Oakley understands the Center Building is a no-dogs setting and is happy to remain within the confines of his new office.

Rachel currently has a few openings for new clients, primarily adults coming for individual counseling.  She often helps clients with mood disorders – anxiety, depression — and those experiencing relationship issues and family conflict.
